However, it is really easy to add the Developer tab to the ribbon menu and access Excel add-ins, ActiveX controls, Visual Basic commands, macros, forms, interactive tools, and various other functions.

The fastest way to display the Developer tab in Microsoft Excel is to right-click an empty area in the ribbon menu and select the Customize Ribbon… option.

If this does not work, you can try any of the following methods that apply to the version of Microsoft Excel installed on your computer. On the next screen, check the little box next to Developer and click on OK.

  • Excel 2010 and Later: Click on File > Options > Customize Ribbon > check the Developer option and click on OK.
  • Excel 2007 and earlier: Click on the Microsoft Office Button > Excel Options > Popular > Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon.
  • Excel on Mac: Click on Customize tool bar Down Arrow and choose More Commands. On the More Commands screen, click on the Ribbon tab and check the Developer option.
